We all know the best defence on the sports field is usually a good offence; this is the same when it comes to caring for your carpet. The best way to achieve optimum results is by implementing simple yet efficient practices. All carpets are prone to stains and spills at any time of the day or night, however, if you have the right cleaning products you will always be prepared for the worst-case scenario.
Luckily for you, we have put together a list of our absolute favourite products when it comes to cleaning carpets. Some of these products can be created as natural mixtures or if you prefer branded products they work just the same. No matter what you choose, you should always have them close by so you will always be prepared.
Absorb Odours and Light Stains With Carpet Powders
We recommend having your favourite carpet powder or even baking soda close by at all times in case of emergencies, this will make cleaning any stains or spills much easier if you attend the situation straight away. Carpet powders are easy to use, just sprinkle a sufficient amount over the affected area, leave this for 30 minutes to allow the powder to soften any stains and absorb all odours. Once you have waited, vacuum up the leftover powder and your carpet should be good as new.
The Best Carpet Cleaners for Those Tough Stains
Not all stains can be removed quickly and easily, some are extremely tough. That’s why it’s important to always have an all-purpose carpet cleaner nearby for these situations. If you opt for more of a DIY natural solution, here are some of our go-to choices.
- White Vinegar – Mix white vinegar and some water into a spray bottle keeping in mind a 1:1 ratio. Spray the mixture on the affected area, and leave it to soak in for 10-15 minutes. Then with a clean sponge, press the stained area to absorb all liquids. You may need to repeat this process a few times for desired results.
- Dishwashing Liquid Against Grease – If you come across grease stains on your carpet; water will not be enough to remove the stain. Combine dishwashing liquid and water in a spray bottle and spray onto the stain; make sure to blot it with a clean cloth.
- Hydrogen Peroxide for Blood Stains – Unexpected situations such as bloody noses or paper cuts can be one of the hardest stains to clean! It requires hydrogen peroxide to be applied directly to the affected area. You must let this solution soak in for a few minutes and then with a clean damp cloth, dab the area to absorb the stain.
