Kids Room Carpet
What is the best carpet for kids rooms?
Finding the right carpet for kids rooms can be a bit of a challenge, because these rooms see a lot of traffic and are also subjected to all kinds of accidents that other carpeted spaces may not have to deal with.
Practicality is a major piece of the puzzle when you are getting ready to purchase carpets for a room that children are going to be spending a lot of time in. Sure, you want to make certain that the carpet you have selected goes well with the interior design atmosphere aesthetic you have been crafting – but you also want to make sure that the spaces are safe, that they are comfortable, and that they are going to be easy to clean and maintain.
Assume that anything and everything that can go wrong in these rooms will go wrong at some point in time – and that the carpets are going to be subjected to all kinds of use and abuse – so pick a carpet that can handle the pressure.
You’ll be glad you did!
Is carpet a good idea for kids rooms?
Strictly from a durability standpoint carpet may not be the best idea for a room that children are going to be spending a lot of time in. Hard surfaces and non-fibrous services – laminate flooring, engineered wood flooring, vinyl, ceramic tile, etc. – would definitely be able to handle the kind of traffic and usage that energetic young children are going to bring to these spaces.
At the same time, that kind of approach leads spaces that children are going to be in very cold, very hard, and without any real consideration to the comfort of these children.
Thankfully, with today’s carpet options you can get a lot of durability out of new fibres and new materials. And while it may not be a perfectly durable solution like hard surface and non-fibrous flooring, today’s modern carpets do a great job at standing up to the kind of use and abuse children put carpets through all the time.
What should I consider when choosing carpet for my kids room?
The fibre type that you pick for your carpet is going to make a huge difference as far as how it performs in a child’s room is concerned.
PET fibres, nylon fibres, and triexta fibres are some of the most popular options because they are 100% inorganic and capable of withstanding a lot more traffic, a lot more abrasion, and a lot more frequent cleaning and maintenance than your traditional organic materials (including wool) can.
Wool in the organic department is a fantastic choice, however, as it is probably going to stand up best against everything children can throw at these kinds of carpet.
The comfort of these carpets should be a major priority as well, as children are going to spend plenty of time playing on a carpet and you want to be sure that it is cozy and comfortable – something that they will enjoy spending time on.
The colour of your carpet for children’s rooms can be brighter and bolder than what you might choose other spaces as well. This gives you plenty of opportunity to really go wild with your creativity to bring a lot of energy to these spaces.
Is carpet safe for kids?
The right kind of carpet is 100% going to be safe for children – but again you have to make sure that you are choosing the right kind of carpet to begin with.
